The Facilities team at Texas Biomed is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead planning anddesign activity in support of site-wide campus facility needs, includingmechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, chemical, etc. The PrincipalEngineer is the in-house engineering leader supporting new building design andconstruction, facility reconfiguration/renovation, maintenance, and alterationof equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, infrastructure, and otherfacilities.
THE ROLE: Gather and review data concerning facility or equipment specifications, external requirements, required completion date, and solution feasibility and estimated cost. Coordinate with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepare bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation, and other related costs. Inspect or direct the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Develop budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs. Manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in architecture or engineering projects. Review and critique proposals, plans, or designs related to facility repair and improvement projects and systems. Plan the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, or repair of facilities or equipment. Evaluate the environmental impacts of proposed engineering and architecture projects and activities; identify environmental risks and develop risk management strategies for civil engineering projects. Prepare technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems, or topographical maps to ensure that installation and operations conform to standards and requirements. Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical/electrical preferred); Master's degree in Engineering preferred 10 years of job specific experience required Professional Engineer preferred
