Analyzes research data or customer specifications and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.
Prepares work-plans, cost estimates, project budgets and schedules for major design projects. Reports adherence to schedule, budget and technical requirements.
Confers with research personnel, customer service, product management and customers to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.
Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics including establishment of new part numbers, bills of material and configuration rules.
Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
Plans and develops experimental test programs or prepares or directs preparation of analysis to verify design adequacy.
Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications. Prepares or coordinates preparation of test reports for newly performed tests.
Confers with research and other engineering personnel or customer service, product management or customers and prepares or directs preparation of design modifications as required.
Confers with industrial engineers, suppliers and production personnel and applies a broad knowledge of manufacturing processes to assure manufacturability.
Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses.
Prepares or directs preparation of instruction manuals, illustrations and other technical information for projects and for general sales literature. Reviews sales literature for technical accuracy.
Analyzes product performance problems and dispositions customer returns. Recommends solutions to satisfy customer requirements. Prepares reports for internal use or for distribution to customers.
Prepare work instructions and department procedures.
Perform training on products and procedures in area of expertise.
Dispositions nonconforming material or products and initiates corrective action.
Reviews work performed by subordinates or other engineers for accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards. Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.S. in Engineering) from four-year college or university and three to six years related experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and calculus. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. A thorough understanding of Boolean logic is required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
COMPUTING SKILLS
Must have a working knowledge of computer aided design and engineering software. Ability to navigate and utilize custom applications in a MS Windows environment.
