Position Summary
Reporting to the President, and as a key member of the executive team, the Quality Manager has primary responsibility for establishing, implementing, and directing all aspects of the company’s quality programs and ISO based quality management systems. Responsible for maintaining, modifying existing or developing strategic quality plans in partnership with the leadership team. Is responsible for driving a continuous improvement mindset throughout the business. Will provide a hands-on effort to build a culture of quality, fostered by training, facilitation, and the implementation of effective operating systems necessary to build organizational competencies and capabilities to meet high customer and market quality expectations. Partners with and provides guidance to manufacturing, engineering, business development, suppliers, and customers on all quality related issues. Will establish and drive a "root cause" analysis mindset and culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides quality leadership and builds organizational capability across the business to drive collaborative strategies and solutions to ensure active ownership and accountability across the business.
- Directs, advocates for, and enables visibility of quality processes. Ensures accountability within all areas of the business such that every employee inclusive of management consistently exhibits behavior that promotes and supports quality
- Provides quality, technical and process expertise in support of daily production and projects to ensure business performance metrics and customer requirements are met.
- Develops and implements quality-related training programs for managers and employees
- Manages quality assurance resources to ensure product flow consistent with established industry standards, government regulations and customer requirements.
- Serves as the champion of Continuous Improvement and Lean initiatives.
- Promotes a culture of continuous improvement through initiatives to reduce the cost of poor quality and improve on time delivery.
- Supports achievement of business performance goals through data acquisition and analysis, scrap, and rework reduction and continual process improvement.
- Establishes departmental operating goals and plans, implements strategies to achieve them and holds employees accountable to performance standards.
- Recruits and trains a team of competent quality assurance professionals that carries out quality objectives and supports the manufacturing team.
- Ensures quality teams are properly scheduled and supporting the daily operations and the strategic directions of the facility.
- Collaborates with leadership team to ensure company strategic quality initiatives are instituted, ensuring the quality system fits with the business goals of the organization.
- Responsible for managing customer quality concerns, and incident reports and driving appropriate actions including but not limited to, communication of corrective actions, and approval of remedies that instill a culture of responsiveness and root cause corrective action related to customer and quality related issues.
- Will monitor and create action plans to meet key business metrics including customer complaint reductions, scrap reduction, first pass yield improvement and non-conformance reduction.
- Develops and implements a facility root cause and corrective action process, with a mindset for eliminating defects and providing timely resolutions to customers.
- Develops ways to make the quality system leaner, enabling company to do less inspection and documentation while maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Responsible for driving standards and adherence to the controlled document process.
- Develops collaborative relationships with strategic customers to become their preferred partner.
- Develops and recommends inspection and sampling techniques, quality control plans, or process control procedures that will ensure production of finished goods that meet quality specifications and standards.
- Schedules and executes internal QA program audits, conducts audit reviews, and implements corrective actions as required.
- Supports engineering and business development efforts by participating in design development projects representing quality assurance.
- Designs and implements methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection.
- Promotes and executes quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, documents, and reports.
- From time to time, reviews from a quality perspective, customers’ purchase orders, contracts and change requests ensuring that the necessary criteria and provisions are included in the quality and process plans and or the business has the proper quality capabilities to meet any unusual requirements.
- Develops, executes, and analyzes quality-reporting measures.
- Reports to management on quality issues, trends, and losses.
- Leads the internal and external quality audit programs.
- Interfaces with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning issues with quality assurance and ensuring that effective corrective action is implemented.
- Leads the Materials Review Board (MRB)
- As a key member of the leadership team, will participate in the annual strategic planning and budgeting process
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering or equivalent.
- Knowledge of CNC machining, Swissturn screw style machines and lathes and the associated tight tolerance precision metal and plastic components they produce is highly desirable.
- Minimum 10 years’ hands on quality experience and quality management systems
- Demonstrated experience in ISO systems and be able to lead all activity managing ISO audits.
- Leadership skills: vision, initiative, and collaboration.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong EQ.
- Broad knowledge of theory and principles of statistics and statistical process control
- Demonstrated knowledge in Lean Manufacturing.
- Diverse knowledge of inspection and quality methods, techniques, documentation, and equipment.
- Strong professional writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to multi-task strategically and tactically.
- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing operations and processes.
- Excellent computer skills.
