The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech) invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering positions, beginning August 2020. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering courses and developing research programs. In addition, they include advising students and participating in service activities in the profession and for the university. Areas of specialization in the department include: mechatronics and robotics, explosives engineering, solid mechanics and fluid and thermal sciences. The Mechanical Engineering Department at New Mexico Tech offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Science (MS), Master of Engineering (MEng) and Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees. The Mechanical Engineering Bachelor Degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org. The department employs 13 full-time faculty members and a number of support staff. Our undergraduate curricula and student success is driven by a rigorous multi-years design clinic program which offers students the opportunity to work on real-world engineering problems with projects sponsored by industry, government agencies, and national laboratories. Faculty research interests are diverse and include mechatronics and robotics, explosives engineering, solid mechanics and fluid and thermal sciences. Mechatronics and explosives specializations are highlights of the department and involve close collaboration with national laboratories and the institute’s Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center. Requirements: Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field; college-level teaching experience and demonstrated scholarly research. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in mechatronics and robotics. Candidates would be expected to develop original research efforts and to collaborate with current faculty in the department.
