The San Mateo County Transit District seeks an Engineer II, Railroad Structures to be responsible for engineering support and construction oversight of capital improvement projects for stations, structures and facilities for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain).
The Engineer II, Railroad Structures will provide engineering support to Rail Operations, Capital Projects, Construction Management and other Caltrain departments to maintain railroad structures including station and facilities (civil/structural) in a state of good repair, review and perform capacity calculations on railway structures, design reviews and capital improvement projects to protect the integrity of the railroad structures and to ensure technical requirements are met, oversee projects to be performed by outside agencies working on Caltrain property, participate in capital project development studies including consultant negotiations, estimating and scheduling and identify root causes of engineering structural issues and present appropriate solutions.
The Engineer II, Railroad Structures will also review engineering design project documents including plans, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, project schedules and constructability review reports, as well as review project design documents, interface with Caltrain Operations, monitor construction progress and inspect construction fieldwork. The incumbent will be responsible for performing on-site inspection, analysis and condition assessment of existing railroad structures and monitoring third party vendors on capital projects to protect the Agency’s infrastructure and operational interests.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, structural engineering, or a related field with three (3) years of progressively increasing responsibility in structural engineering. Prior experience working on railroad structure projects is preferred. Must be able and willing to conduct railroad structure inspections. Must possess effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Must possess a valid California driver’s license with safe driving record.
